Create the Perfect Garden With a Japanese Arbor

If you asked someone to describe what a Japanese arbor looked like, they probably wouldn’t be able to, although most of us can identify one when we see them. These are particularly unique arbors and are a great addition to any garden, no matter where you live or what kind of yard you have.

Harmony Arbor

Our Harmony Arbor will help to put you in tune with nature. Step through it, and you'll note the glorious melodies of the birds singing in the trees. You'll see sharp colors in your flowers, as they climb the bars on the arbor, step by step. Indeed, you will suddenly feel as if you're in concert with all of creation.

Japanese arbors have a few features in common that distinguish them from arbors that you might find in a more traditional American backyard:

Styling.

There is a particular style to Japanese arbors that give them an Asian look. Generally speaking, they have sharp lines, a flat top, and sometimes slightly swayed tops. These are not arches, as the beams are straight across, but the two sides are often not quite horizontal.

Construction.

Although there are some exceptions to be found, most Japanese arbors are made from wood, and in particular, cedar wood.  Although there are some areas of the country that are better suited for untreated wood arbors, you will find these almost everywhere. Unfortunately, they don’t last as long as iron arbors do, but they are well worth the money and you should get at least a decade out of one.

Installation.

You will also find that most Japanese arbors are free-standing and that they are not buried into the ground. For ease of installation, this is a big time and money saver, since you won’t have to dig a hole or mix concrete. That being said, they are also somewhat prone to falling down, so it is a good idea to at least have your arbor tied to another structure to keep it safe in windy weather.

Plants.

You will find that most people who use this type of arbor do not choose to go with traditional ivy to climb up the structure. Using a small, flowering plant, such as jasmine or cherry blossoms, really makes it feel much more Asian and will provide you with a beautiful setting in your backyard.

If you are looking to buy a Japanese arbor, you will find, as most people do, that there are very few of them available in your local home improvement store, and you might not even find one. You can look for them in patio stores or garden centers, but these are somewhat high-ticket items, and they are not often in stock.

In fact, if you are thinking of buying one of these arbors to decorate your front or back yard, you will actually find the best selection of them online. When you shop online, make sure that you pay close attention to the installation that will be required, the amount of construction or assembly that you will have to do, and the shipping costs. In most cases, you can get them shipped free or at a very low cost, and if you don’t have a lot of assembly to do, you could have your own Japanese arbor up in your garden in just a matter of a few days.
